Top Ten Tuesday is a Meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish This week's Top Ten Tuesday is going to be my Top Six ALL TIME Favorite Realistic MG Fiction Books
I know, you're probably surprised that I went with realistic fiction instead of fantasy. I do like my fantasy, a lot. This week, I went with something different.
1. Ms. Bixby's Last Day by John David Anderson
This is one of my favorite books so far this year. I love the way the stories alternates between each of the boys, Ms. Bixby, how they try to give her the best last day party. The way that Ms. Bixby
touches each of these boys lives, and the friendship that these boys share. I'm holding out hope for another story with Topher, Brand and Steve!
2. All Four Stars by Tara Dairman
I've always loved Gladys passion for cooking and will never forget reading the" creme brulee incident" for the first time. This whole series has such wonderful references to foods and is one of the first books to make me really hungry while reading it.
3. The 14 Fibs of Gregory K by Greg Pincus
Greg desperately wants to go to Author Camp, but is failing math. In a family of math geniuses, this just won't do. I really fun story that centers around the Fibonacci Sequence and the importance of math in our daily lives.
4. Fish In A Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt
An uplifting story about Ally's struggles with dyslexia. Favorite line: "Everyone is smart in different ways. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life thinking it's stupid."
5. Ice Dogs by Terry Lynn Johnson A riveting survival story of two kids who get lost in the backcountry of Alaska during a horrible storm. They must find a way to get back to safety before hypothermia sets in.
6. Hope Is A Ferris Wheel by Robin Herrera
I loved this mostly because Star reminded me of one of my relatives. Wonderful story that includes an Emily Dickinson club and poems and metaphors and writing vocabulary words. Such fun.
Have you read any of these? Any other MG Realistic Fiction to suggest. Feel free to leave me your TTT links in the comments.
I love MG realistic fiction, but I've only read ONE of these books. Crazy. I'm adding most of them to my TBR mountain chain. Thanks for the heads-up! Oh, and my favorite MG realistic fiction writer is Cynthia Lord. I've enjoyed all her books.
ReplyDeleteI've read and enjoyed Half A Chance, but will have to check out some of the other books by Cynthia Lord. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
DeleteI haven't read any of these, so I'll definitely need to check some of them out. Thanks for sharing, and for stopping by my TTT earlier! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the cover for Hope is a Ferris Wheel
ReplyDeleteI haven't read every book on your list, but the few I have read, like Wonder, Fish in a Tree and Ms. Bixby's Last Day I've really enjoyed, and I've enjoyed sharing them with young readers at my library.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any of these, but they all sound wonderful! I love the cover for Hope is a Ferris Wheel.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my TTT!
I'm looking forward to reading Mrs. Bixby's Last Day.
ReplyDeleteIt's so good :) Hope you get a chance soon.
DeleteIce Dogs is on our battle of the books list this year! I also adored Ms. Bixby and All Four Stars. Great list, and they are hard to make!
ReplyDeleteI could only come up with six books, it was way harder than I thought it would be. I do like making the TTT lists though, and reviewing the books that I've read.
DeleteI can't believe I haven't read a single one! How could I have missed these?
ReplyDeleteEvery TTT I think the same thing :)
DeleteI really liked Ice Dogs too. I haven't read much realistic MG. Mostly fantasy is what I've read.
ReplyDeleteMe too, but I'm trying to broaden my reading a bit and read different genre's, age ranges. Although, I still haven't ventured past YA or into nonfiction much either.
DeleteThese all sound great and I haven't read any of them! My favorite MG fictions have to be Linda Urban's A Crooked Kind of Perfect; Hillary McKay's Saffy's Angel -well, the whole Casson family series, at least what I've read so far; and The Horizontal Man by Michael Dahl, which is unique because it's a funny, middle-grade, murder mystery, and you just don't run across many of those.
ReplyDeleteThank you for these Amanda, have to give them all a look.
DeleteI have only read one of these- Fish in a Tree, which I really enjoyed. Some of these are already on my every growing TBR list. :) But- you have given me more to think about. Thanks for sharing. :)
